Using Metaphor Magick From Your Pantry

Alphabet Soup:

This can be used for divination. As you eat a bowl of alphabet soup, concentrate on a specific question. When you get to the point of having about 6 spoonfuls left, close you eyes and scoop up 3 of the remaining spoonfuls, thinking of your question. Now examine the letters left in your bowl. Do they spell anything? Perhaps the number of letters left is significant to your question. I have tried this and you would be surprised at how well it works.

Butter:

Use butter to get on better terms with someone. You've heard the old expression, "butter someone up?" Well, use this association to help a stressed relationship. Take a piece of bread and write the name of the person on it with a toothpick. As you place it in the toaster, envision that the heating energy from the toaster is "warming up" the individual to being more receptive to a calm discussion. Next, apply the butter on to the toast as if it were a healing salve between you and that person.

Dish Towel:

Dont have a smudge stick handy? Try using a damp dish towel to asperage your kitchen. To use yours in a creative way, sprinkle a little extra water on your towel and begin moving around the kitchen clockwise. As you go, allow drops of water to be shaken off, and visualize the towel being like your wand or athame in a magick circle. Pour white light energy through it into your kitchen until it is filled with freshness.

Flour:

Flour can help reveal a secret. Have you ever noticed how traces of flour make you aware of what areas of your kitchen are clean? If you feel something is being hidden from you, dampen a surface of your counter while thinking about things that have happened to make you concerned. Next, sprinkle the flour over the surface and see if patterns form. For this divination, it is best if you unfocus your eyes, not looking directly for a specific pattern, but allowing your senses to lead you. The pattern that develops (if any) will be something you alone can recognize as an answer.

Ice:

An old fold spell tells us to write the name of a person who is acting against us and place it in water to freeze in the freezer, thus leaving them unable to do more harm. To cool a "hot temper", write the name of a person on a paper placed on a saucer, then put an ice cube on top of it. Allow the ice to melt slowly and completely cover the name so the anger is diffused.

Mashed Potatoes:

Mashed potatoes are great for 101 different kinds of spells because you can draw them in. Next time you have a plateful, carve a rune or symbol into the center to show your intention, fill it with gravy (to fill it with energy) and then eat it (to internalize the magick!)

Rolled Roast:

Rolled Roasts come with a twine around them. Name this twine according to something you want to cut away from your life. The heat of the oven helps burn away the habit or problem (ever notice how the twine often falls off after cooking?) Finally, as you remove the twine from the roast declare, "As I say, I'm free today, my problem must be cut away!"

Tea Kettle:

Even tea kettles can be good divination tools. Pour water into your kettle, concentrating on a yes or no question. When the water comes to a boil, a slow steady whistle means yes, a broken up whistle means no.

Sock Rhyme

A rhyme from America about the holes in your socks and stockings.

Wear at the toe,
Spend as you go;
Wear at the heel,
Spend a good deal;
Wear at the side,
You'll be a rich bride;
Wear at the ball,
You'll live to spend all.

From England comes this cutlery superstition:

Knife falls,
Gentleman calls.
Fork falls,
Lady calls.
Spoon falls,
Baby squalls.

Magical Uses for a banana

The banana is used to increase fertility, and also to cure impotency.
Perhaps because of these magical powers, if a bride is married under a
banana tree she will be lucky.
The leaves, flowers and fruits of the banana tree are used in money and
prosperity spells, due to the tree's fruitfulness.
Curious enough, an old belief tells us that a banana should never be
cut, only broken.

Money Foods:
Preparing and Cooking Money Foods

Burn a green candle in the kitchen.

Cut vegetables into square shapes (to represent the element Earth).

Use square pans to bake pies.

Heavy rich and sweet foods are ideal for money diets, but don't ignore nuts and vegetables.

Never load up on ice cream and other desserts in place of healthy fare.

You will suffer physically from such an unbalanced diet.

Keep your pantry well stocked with foods of all kinds.

In the past as today food was a sign of wealth. Keep some on hand at all times.
----Add bran to foods
-----Have a snack of mixed cashews, almonds and pecans
------Use only whole grain breads (no white breads)
